I saw one of my friends wearing some sol republic tracks and I love the way they looked. I didn't get to use them, but I've read that they are as good or even better than the dres, which really isn't saying that much in my opinion. The sols are also a lot more affordable, but which ones should i get in terms of best audio and best bass?

Okay truth. Beats by dres were the first headphones that took the world by storm because of celeb endorsement and the heavy bass they produce. There are many reasons why people say that beats are bad and here are some: people try to get beats for cheap and thats impossible, if you bought beats outside of an offical dealer (apple futureshop best buy boathouse) they are in fact fake, another reason, people are bias towards a pair of expensive headphones they personally do not want to spend money on, or they are too "mainstream". Now lets face it, we live in a world of presentation, correct? When people are buying something they look at the brand first, cause seriously if we didnt care about brand, lets all just buy Walmart shoes and not the pair of nikes or whatever u like to wear, or lets not buy a mercedes but settle for a volkeswagon. So basically we all like to have nice things. So if you want to get a pair of Sol its your choice, but that "b" emblem is going to catch ppls eyes a lot more because famous stars endorse that emblem. Now audio, they are both excellent. I dont think there is anything known as "better" especially when you are buying celebrity endorsed headphones, just reference. Because we are not all audiophiles, just everyday ppl so we arent quite as picky. Sol is endorsed by deadmau5 i believe, just some extra info.

I am a bit of an audiophile and I ve had 2 pairs of beats and 3 pairs of Sols and both pairs of Beats have broken in the first two months of owning them and beats has refused to fix them even though one of them had a factory defect. Out of the 3 pairs of Sols I ve owned only one pair has broken and Sol Republic fixed them free of charge without question. I ve had a pair of Sols for a little more than a year now and they work like I bought them yesterday and I still remix my Sols with different headbands and cables all the time. As for the sound quality I have found that Beats bass tends to overwhelm the music and there is no way to turn down or reduce the bass. For someone who really likes a lot of bass in their music beats might be a better option but you ve got to consider that beats only focuses on the bass and some of their headphones end up physically shaking themselves apart and their warranty covers practically nothing. In my opinion Sols are 100% the way to go if you want a solid pair of headphones with outstanding sound quality and remarkable bass but if you do decide to buy beats just be prepared to receive a pair of headphones that might only work for a couple months.

To be honest, i own a pair of Studio Beats and I really regret buying them. The sound quality is alright but they are really fragile and i broke the band on the top and the "leather" on the headband had peeled off. Sol Republic claims that their headphones are "invincible", but i am sure that they are a lot stringer than beats. Sound quality is the same, republics are cheaper and Sol republic has more interesting designs, so i would probably recommend Sol republics.

Honestly, I have never used beats, because they are so expensive. I have heard from a few people, though, that they are nothing special for the price. I did just buy a pair of sol republic jax, however. They were only 40 bucks, and they are by far the best ear buds I have bought thus far.

As a ex-professional sound engineer in both studio and location recording I'm used to the likes of AKG 141, Sennheiser HD's and Sony!

Sound quality, Comfort, and closed/open are other factors.

Now the Beats by Dre and Sol republic are a different kettle of fish!

"they" are quality headphones and yet they are not?

Endorsed by famous people 'do not' make them good

because a singers do not have good hearing!

They sing notes, the recordings are left to the engineer!

Firstly both the beats and Sol are rather simlar in sound.

too heavy Bass is no good detail is lost to deep thumping sound

which is no-good and thats the Beats Studio 2 as endorsed by Dr. Dre .

it is not a all-rounder head set and may suit those who like

heavy bass sounds and mid tones is soft!

The Sol republic Tracks Hd too has a heavy bass but not like the Beats

which gets drowned out! The Sol has better Mid/Treble, could also be due to the way it sits on the ear too?

I am more bias towards the Sol it has better clarity and imagery.

my four songs of choice in using them was Sinead O'Connors

"Troy", (because of it vocals and strings and ambiance and sharp vocals)

Noisettes "Never forget you" because of its bass guitar and group vocals and rock sound!

Cameo "word up" because of its great funk sound

and digital drum bass!

And a concert recording I made on a 24 track 8-2 Soundcraft Delta Analogue desk of a various male/female choirs and some professional artists on a Open stage. using a Carlec Sound field Mic and Neumann Mics shared with a live desk.

The beats was nice on low volumes but as it got higher the Bass started to overact and loose detail in the treble especially on the Sinead OConnor song straight from near silence to full string orchestra sound!

on the it was great with both the Noisettes and Cameo songs.

but again lacking detail and my own recording they sound ok

but no bass to mask the weakness of the earphones

On the Sol Republic, again a deep bass but not to heavy!

may be too much mid tone shallow sound in areas.

It was great with Cameo and Noisettes, and O'Connors Troy

was again little like the Beats but not too bad! Did suffer a little on the treble too over bright.

Anyway thats my opinion of their sound

build quality Sol republic all the way, it says its headband is indestructible also the cable can be changed if snagged.

verdict.

Beats nice deep bass, very nice feel and comfort shame about

the general sound, definitely not worth £200+

Sol Republic sound is similar if not shallower and little more detailed.

A good Studio AKG 240 or !41 are not as expensive and these are what musicians around the world use, yet you can buy two for the price of one Dre.

You are paying for the name, endorsement and style sake.

Ill go for a Sol Republic Tracks HD its cheaper, parts are self removable and damaged parts can be replaced.

i have sol republic master tracks and beats solo hd. they are same price but the master tracks are WAY better! over ear vs on ear. need i say more. both have good bass but masater tracks are a lot better. the regular tracks (v8, v10, v12) are like the solos, but cheaper and a little better. quality is where sol republic is better because their headbands are literally indestructable. sol republic is better in my opinion.
