I think, they called Covid-19 due to it began on 2019, covid means, Corona virus detection, maybe thats why they give the name covid-19.

Coronaviruses are a "family" of viruses, including various things such as the common cold and the SARS / MERS outbreak virii from some years ago.

COVID 19 is the illness caused by the specific new strain that first appeared in humans in 2019:

Corona Virus Disease [20]19.

The specific virus that causes it is called SARS-CoV-2 as it's the second type of coronavirus discovered that causes the SARS effect.

SARS = Sudden Acute Respiratory distress Syndrome.

Covid-19 is the disease. Coronavirus is the virus. It’s like HIV and AIDS. HIV is the virus that causes AIDS but you can use coronavirus and vivid-19 interchangeably.
