Same Song, Different Beat
Wiz formula:
1.Get a beat with a spacy feel that knocks hard
2.Talk about weed, girls, money, champagne and being fly with little to no clever rhymes
3.Sing the hook
4.??????????
5.PROFIT!!!!!!
This is actually much more of a pop album than LASERS. If you've heard one Wiz song you've heard em all so I knew what I was gonna get. He repeats hella weak lines a lot and it's actually kind of sad that he can't come up with anything better, let alone different. Since the rapping is garbage you gotta rate the album on production and hooks, which is pretty strong for about 3/4 of the album although most of the hooks are hit or miss.
One thing I like is there are only 3 features and Wiz sings all his hooks so you kinda gotta respect he's trying to do it on his own...nah I take it back. He shoulda had about two guest verses a song
Even though the rapping is terrible, a lot of the music is pretty enjoyable. Can't hate on Wiz cause this is what he's always done but it's basically a worse version of Kush and OJ and it's not near as impressive hearing it the second time around. A lot of his rapping on the mixtape was decent but he's bad pretty much all the way through on this one. It's cool to bump this if you're stoned/in the car on the beach but that's probably the only time I'll listen.
I know it'll sell well but I can't see him having much more of a career if he doesn't get some ghostwriters/change his subject matter and not suck at rapping. Wait, nevermind, he's a pop star, not a rapper. This is probably gonna get torched by every reviewer not paid by Atlantic (watch Pitchfork give it a 7.)
4.5/10
