Why is Lil Wayne so big in america?

I'm from England, and he is virtually unheard of over here, only the die hard rap/hip-hop fans know about him.
I have 500 Degreez, Da Carter and Da Carter II I think these were all majorly overhyped. Americans I speak to all think he is the best rapper out there etc.
The best song (one of the only good ones in my opinion) by Lil Wayne is You Nasty If you know any other Good ones can you tell me please.

Wayne is big in America because he knows how to market himself he is a marketing tool he can rap but the majority of the things he raps about is things he's never down just like he claims the 17th he is from New Orleans East (middle class area). He is good at pretending to be what the consumers want. But due to the fact Wayne can't get a passport he's never left the country that's why he's only big in America

i like Lil Wayne he has mad flow but at times he gets old because he is everywhere and thats only because he is the truth.
