Why do people say Blondie invented Hip-hop?

they're talking about her song "Rapture".
"Rapture" wasn't the first song involving rap to be successful; the Sugarhill Gang's 1979 hit "Rapper's Delight" reached the top 40 on the U.S. Hot 100 chart, and Kurtis Blow's track "The Breaks" was the first certified gold rap single in 1980. Blondie came in 1980.Hip-hop wasborn in 1960s? Anyone see a problem with those dates?

Rapture was the first hip-hop song to reach number one in the world, it also reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Although Blondie didn't invent hip-hop they did help introduce it to a more diverse audience. They opened the door and made it okay for "white" people to rap. Rapture (and Blondie) will be remembered for introducing hip-hop as a genre, even if they weren't the first. By the way, Blondie is a band so it would be a "their" instead of a "her."

Blondie helped hip hop reach a mainstream audience. Kind of like when Run DMC did the remix of Aerosmiths Walk this way. People who think blondie invented rap have obviously been locked in a closet for the past 30 years!

Blondie is credited as the first Pop/Mainstream artist to feature a "rap" in her song. I've never heard her referred to as the inventor of hip-hop.

She was just helpful to the genre of rap at the time. She was mimicking what she was hearing all around her cuz a lot of her crew and entourage were these awesome black kids who were showing her and the band all about rap culture. So they are most definitely part of how rap became a popular genre and considered music.
